I was having a conversation with my husband about the benefits of staging a home when preparing for sale and he reminded me that most people would not know what “staging” means. As in any field we probably become accustomed to certain buzz-words and this may be one that non-Realtors would not understand. I did not necessarily agree with my husband but decided to do an informal poll of random people I spoke to over the course of the next week and found out that my husband was right! Most people did not seem to know that term although they did realize that a house should appear a certain way in order to sell.
My office, Century 21 Commonwealth, is working with a top-notch Accredited Staging Professional for all of our listings. Statistics show that staged homes sell faster and for more money (5-15% more) than non-staged homes. The Staging Professional comes by to take a look at a home and prepares a report (free to the homeowner) to advise what modifications could be made to improve the look and salability of the home. Sometimes it is small changes like adding splashes of color with flowers, fruit or pillows but other times removing furniture, painting an accent wall may be recommended. Sellers have been very pleased with this Staging service since it gives them an edge over the other many homes that they may be competing with for buyers.
